Custom ShapesTechnologyEnvironment
We have not, nor will we ever make high performance "pop out" or "molded boards". 100% of our performance-oriented boards are designed and hand shaped by Dave Daum and the KPS shaping team.
We are very passionate about this sport and have developed designs that work well in all surf conditions. As the sport evolves we will continue to make evolutionary changes.
We also offer fully custom boards, so you can get that perfect one-of-a-kind shape and color. Just let us know what you are thinking and we will do our best to make your dream board come to reality.

King's paddleboards are 100% designed by hand and leverage experience developed over the past 35 years by Dave Daum and the Kings Paddle Sport (KPS) team. At KPS we focus on using the finest material to create the best performing, strongest and lightest epoxy paddle boards and accessories available anywhere. Some examples of our materials are as follows:
Resin
Epoxy resin has been available for many years and until recently have been relatively unchanged. Over the past couple of years many new formulations have come to market. At KPS we have evaluated and continue to implement new formulas, which optimize the balance between strength, flexibility, impact resistance and long-term durability. The epoxy resins we use are at least 20% stronger than traditional polyester resins, and have 3X the resistant to fracture lines and pressure dings.
Foam
At KPS we use 1.5 lbs Expanded Polystyrene foam (EPS). Over the past couple of years the team at White Hot has worked with veteran board builders to create "surf specific EPS" foam. This SS-EPS foam has a superior bead fusion that allows it to be laminated without the use of traditional fillers. This helps minimize H2O absorption when dinged.
The raw blanks we use at KPS have a consistent density and uniform bead-bonding tip to tail. The end result is a blank that is 30% lighter and up to 5 times stronger than traditional polyurethane blanks. This uniform material density allows us to strategically place layers of fiberglass for additional shell strength and flexibility where needed. Because we use surf specific foam our boards will draw less H2O when dinged.
Fiberglass
Both the weave and weight of fiberglass cloth used affects the strength of a surfboard. We spent considerable time evaluating the different weaves and weights of fiberglass cloth and determined that 6oz square weave offered the best characteristics for long term strength and flexibility. We spec and use only the freshest, finest fiber cloth available and ensure our glass factory handles the fiber with care.
Humidity
Humidity is also an important factor in the final tensile strength of the fiberglass and subsequently your finished board. We know that moisture is easily adsorbed, and can accelerate microscopic cracks and surface defects, and decrease tensile strength. To prevent contamination we glass all of our boards locally in an environmentally controlled atmosphere to ensure the highest finish strength.
Stringers
We looked into many different materials during our search for the perfect stringer material. Over the years we experimented with carbon composites, and hardwoods, we even looked at non-traditional materials and finally settled on Bass wood for its ideal cellulose structure, flexibility and ideal strength to weight ratio.
Fins
We use a 10" Bahne Center Box and FCS side boxes, this allows our customers the most flexibility when it comes to fitting performance specific fins.
King's Paddle Sports and many of our customers share a common belief that we should limit damage to our environment. Because of this, we evaluate all material options and only select ones that optimize key attributes and enhance the design and performance of our products.
Our team also spends precious RnD time evaluating suppliers and processes that produce the best products for all our customers. This is where we are currently focusing our energy:
Resin
Epoxy resin has 75% to 95% fewer Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) contained in the raw resin. VOC's are a source of air pollution and can be a significant health hazard. Currently two-thirds fewer VOC's are released into the atmosphere while manufacturing our boards than from the traditional polyester resin material and process.
Foam
Expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam is not only 100% recyclable; it is also safe to work with. No VOC's are released from the foam during the shaping and glassing process. All waste material from the shaping process is also 100% recyclable.
Fiberglass
The main ingredient in fiberglass cloth is pure silica sand. Our glass fibers are treated and woven to our specifications to absorb and bond uniformly with our epoxy resins. Thus increasing the life of your board and minimizing board churn.
Stringers
Our supplier selects only prime sustainably grown Bass wood, which is cut and planned to KPS specific widths. We bond this in a controlled environment to our SS-EPS foam with environmentally friendly adhesives.
Waste
Epoxy construction requires a higher level of precision and skill in the glassing process. We engage only the most skilled technicians and require them to meet stringent ISO 9000 level process controls. We selected specific materials and developed our processes to create the best performing SUP's that leave a minimal carbon footprint.
